Film Review Planning and Drafts

Film review planning and drafts involves writing my own review for my short film. Planning may involve doing some research to gather secondary data and adapt to my own review.

This is a film review of a short film called the Big Night. The film review is introduced by a large film poster. The poster is key in a film review as it may show the audience a section of the film and what the film would be about. This creates a brand identity of the film.

There is a short description of the film. It describes the theme of the film showing the audience what type of film its based on. The poster can be an appeal aspect that attracts the audience to the film. As you can see, the poster is large and bold. As a reader it can tell that the film may be about a lad or group of lads and they have a wild night out with obstacles along the way.

It also gives a more detailed review of the story line. It describes certain  stages of the film and picks out good and bad elements. For the reader this shows more about the film and story line. For the audience this could signify whether they may want to watch the film or not.

title such as The Silent Killer would suggest that the film may be violent with an implied storyline for the audience to discover. This element of the film keeps the audience engaged and through the unknown keeps them alert for any foreboding feelings. The title of the film represents the main protagonist of the film. The literal meaning of the title would suggest that the protagonist becomes a killer that is muted within the plot. Taking place in a household of an distorted family, small elements like no mother figure and troubles in school lead to the protagonist change his mindset intentionally or involuntarily. A tense relationship between father and son gets in the way of a mentally unstable mindset.

The storyline is about a teenager that is under pressure from school due to bad academic performances. The addition of a poor father figure results in a mixture of emotions. The father only seems ready to criticise when necessary but the son seems to view it differently. Also, heavy use of video games influences the vulnerable teenager to violent things such as shooting games. Both of these components fuel the emotion of the plot which supposedly ends with the killing of the father.

"I'm gonna kill him"

Movie quote:

The performances of the cast is below average as they don't seem to have an experience in dramas. The camera was uniquely positioned to signify an emotion for the audience to feel. Facial expressions and over the shoulder shots show a clear scene of dialogue. The addition of props and lighting change the dynamic of the mood of the cast and audience.
