Sound Production

Sound production involves all of the sound elements either diagetic or non diagetic to help enhance a better viewing experience for the audience. All of this will be detailed during the production process of the film.

This screenshot shot shows an image of our editing process. We used imovie to edit the footage of our film. The areas highlighted in green are all of non diagetic sounds that we added into the film. Imovie has default sounds on their software which enables us to add sounds like a ambience. Our footage didn't have enough diagetic ambient sounds as the location was a quiet area therefore, ambient sounds help set the scene.

Furthermore, as the titles are rolling certain sounds have been added to accompany the titles to give the audience a sense of emotion. By this I mean that, as the titles are rolling I have added certain sounds like mysterious wind noises. This is added as the title come up which matches the titles. For the audience, this creates tension as both sound and sight correlate to give this emotion. This emotion is given at the beginning which signifies what type of film it is.

Also, where the cut changes to the next scene sound has been added at the same time. However, the sound is uncomfortable like a loud screech or a loud thud. This puts a sound that is associated with the setting together creating a dark weary feeling.

How we edited sounds whilst editing?

Imovie which was the editing software used to edit our film, has a list of sound effect integrated into the software. As you can see, there are many different types of sound effects from jingles to music. All of these sounds are available to put into the film. For our film, several sounds were used when changing shots or ambient sound to set the mood for the audience.

We also used youtube converter to convert sounds from youtube into our film. These sounds had to be royalty free to prevent copyright strikes. This allowed us to a different variety of sounds that aren't available on imovie. Its a simple process or copying the web address and downloading into imovie.

Here is some of the sound that we used in the film. As you can see, there is overlapping sounds. They have been overlapped because it suits with the continuity of the film. Also, the sound can be altered so that the sound starts on a volume and gradually increases to suit the pace of the film. For example, shots where the film was being introduced the sound was slowly increased into a crescendo which sets a foreboding feeling for the audience.
