In the short film The Fly, the sounds that were commonly used are  diegetic scores. Lots of diegetic ambience and dialogue was also used. During the being of the short film, a diegetic synchronous sound of the engine and the main protagonist tapping the steering wheel. This was significant because it sets the atmosphere with the help of ambient sounds as it signifies the protagonist was nervous due to the fact that he and his accomplices were robbing a bank. The audience is also able to hear the main characters shouting at people telling them to get down and empty the tills. Ambient sounds were important in this film because it prevented there being an awkward silence between transitions of the scenes.

There was a constant diegetic sound of the fly buzzing up until the alarm and horn started just before the protagonists attempted a getaway. This was significant as there was a crescendo which symbolised the protagonists patience until he eventually snapped. This connotes the unfortunate strings of events that leads to him stabbing himself with a toothpick and resulting to snapping it.

Dialogue was another sound technique that was commonly used in this short film. This provided some clarity for the audience so the narrative went along smoothly.
