Location / Setting
On this page you could find the locations which we have planned to film but also where we are planning to place the cameras when shooting the short film and why we have chosen to place the camera in this specific place in comparison to the short film and what this placement has in correlation to the importance of the meaning behind the short film.
Initially when planning the short film we had chosen to film in a school setting and to present bullying as a broader perspective however we had later decided that doing such as short film is slightly generic and we then wanted to sway away from using the school as a location for our short film and we thought that we then had to change the main plot of the short film and think of other issues that tent to happen quite frequently however the people in their position would be afraid to come out and say anything. This was when we decided to make a short film about domestic abuse and the extreme issues that can unfold if not noticed and treated with accurately.
We then decided on a final location to film the short film at Mateusz's house to keep the domestic approach of the short film as prominent as possible. In addition we thought that a more suburban location would also be a good idea for a location as it could show the audience that this kind of thing could be happening around them all the time and our short film would be spreading awareness of such situations unfolding around them and that they could tell someone and bad things could then be prevented from occurring.
Thought Planning
The area on the map which is within the red circle is the area and proximity for where the short film is going to be filmed. This includes the majority of the roads in the circled area but also we will be filming inside one of the houses as well. We have chosen this location as it is fairly quiet, this is important for the filming as this means there will not be a lot of people constantly crossing the camera. Having a more quiet area is also important as we are making a mental health short film so we find it helpful to have the filming set in a more isolated place to show that the main character is alone in his mind and thoughts which also plays a big part in his breakdown.
In this shot the camera is going to be placed behind the wall in a way which you will see a portion of the building covering the screen. We have decided to have a shot like this to add to the mystery and to make the mental health aspect appear more as if the main character is feeling followed this would show the audience the paranoia which could be traveling through the mind of a mentally sick individual in addition, this shot also introduces the audience to the house where the majority of the short film is going to play out at and also allows the audience so see the surrounding area in which the film will be shot for example the side road where the character walk down further in the short film.
This shot is going to be taken using a tracking shot which will allow us to follow the character and also make the audience feel as if they are walking along with the character. This shot allows us to show all the emotions he is presenting but ca. from this angle you can also see where he is coming from but allows the location where he is heading too to be a slight mystery. We have chosen a suburban location to film as most domestic abuses happen in such areas and it shows that these kinds of things can happen among a lot of people and nothing would be done to stop it. But it also spreads an awareness that this could be happening in the audiences neighborhood and this could make them be more aware of what could be happening and to take action.
