Audience Research

For our audience we did a survey on SurveyMonkey so that people could answer our questions. We asked seven questions to our potential audience and they gave us feedback. The feedback we recieve we will use to brainstorm ideas for our short film. Depending on the feedback we are gievn we will use it in our short film. Some of the questions will be on the gnere of films which could give us an indication of what genre the audience want. 

Definition: To establish our who are audience is before we make our short film. This may consist of what their interests are or their characteristics. This makes it easier for us to direct our film at a targeted audience. The audience profile represents our audience. The following points will help us achieve a audience profile:

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Occupation

  • Hobbies

  • Culture

  • Educational Status

Audience Profile

Demographics:

Demographics is statistical data relating to the population that is split into 6 particular groups from the lower class to upper middle class. We are going to use the demographics according to our audience profile points to establish our audience.

Gender: Male 

Age: 16-20 years of age we found is the age most interested in our genre of mental health as a short film. Our age responses from the survey were 100% for 16-20 years of age. 

Gender: Both male and females will be a welcomde audience to our short film. We didnt recieve any other responses suggesting that we have another gender that would watch our film. 

Occupation: Many of our audience will have part times jobs at working class standards. Working in the retail industry or do heavy duty labour work. 

Hobbies: Our audience doesn't need to have specific hobbies. 

Culture: Our audience doesnt need to be from a certain culture. Anyone can be affected with mental health, no is immune to it. Therefore, this makes our film available to a wider audience which intern gives us more recognition and viewing. 

Demographic Table: Out of the 6 demographic groups, of our film can be considered to be aimed at E, D, B and A. We came to this conclusio because the non working class are the lowest category. This means that they are considered lower in society which intern can bring with that more depressive mind state. The working class is also a similar issues. However, the higher groups like B and A have higher responsibility and more to lose. This means that many people become depressed(which is a mental health state of mind that can lead to suicide) which affects them to same way as a persson of a lower class. 

Educational Status: Most of our audience will be studying in their a levels and some may be undergradustes finishing off their university courses. This is because the age group we are aiming our film at are studying. 

Research into Genre

Our genre is going to be based on mental health. We feel that for our short film to have meaning mental health is a sensitive topic that with emotion is enjoyable to watch and understand. Also, in our short film we inted to portrait a message across to our viewers to show the effects of mental health and how it can be intervened. 

We found that children 5-16 years are affected by mental health. This is part of our target audience age group. This means that our film can affect the audience in making a change. This is because out of the 10% of children with mental health, 70% of them don't speak out or intervene. This means that many people are silently suffering. 

Therefore our short film will contain information regarding help needed with mental health in young people. Many young people develop mental health through issues at home, social disadvantage or physical condition. These issues can be adapted through help. As our target audience comes under to the same age group, our short film will be educational whilst raising awareness. 

Communication with our audience

Communication with our audience is important because we need to accurately direct our film to the right audience. Also, we need to some feedback from our target audience so that we can establish what was good and what wasn't so good. This evaluation will help us develop a better film when given another opportunity

One of the ways we will comunicate with our audience is through youtube. Youtube is a platform where we can post videos and recieve feedback according to our video. We will post of short film on youtube also because anyone can access youtube, even people outside our target group.

Videos can be downloaded to which means it can be shared even wider. This free advertisement is essential for us as our budget is very low. 

We believe that the online world known as social media can reach a vast amonut of people for free. Another platform we can use to communicate with our audience is by having an instagram account. This means that on instagram you can post pictures and videos. This means that we can post pictures of our production and maybe even a little teaser to show our target audience what they might want to expect. Furthermore, they can make comments which means that we will still be able to change things in our film that people may not like. These changes will meet more of our target audiences' specification may result in better satisfaction and recommendation.
